Biography

Dr. Nicole H. Weiss earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Jackson State University, where she worked under the mentorship of Dr.’s Matthew T. Tull and Kim L. Gratz. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC)/G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VAMC. Currently, she is a NIDA-funded T32 post-doctoral fellow in Substance Abuse Prevention Research at Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Weiss’ program of research focuses on the role of emotion dysregulation in psychopathology and related maladaptive behaviors.

Research Interest

Her research explores whether maladaptive ways of responding to emotions heighten the risk for impulsive behaviors (e.g., substance use and risky sexual behavior) and related negative clinical outcomes (e.g., HIV, revictimization) among individuals with PTSD. Through examination of these processes using novel behavioral and experimental designs, Dr. Weiss hopes to inform the development of treatments aimed at reducing risky behaviors among individuals with PTSD.
