Biography

Brian King is Associate Dean and Professor in the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He was previously at Victoria University, Australia including as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Industry & Community) and Head of the School of Hospitality, Tourism & Marketing. Originally from Scotland he specializes in tourism marketing with an emphasis on cultural dimensions and emerging Asia-Pacific markets. He has published books and journal articles on tourism marketing, resorts, VFR travel and tourism in the Asia-Pacific Region. He is Co-editor-in-chief of Tourism, Culture and Communication and a Fellow of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism. He has held senior roles in the tour operations, airlines, cruise and destination management sectors and continues this work in relevant board positions.

Research Interest

Brian King's research activities include tourism and hospitality marketing with an emphasis on cultural dimensions, emerging Asia-Pacific markets and destinations. He has also explored the intersection between tourism, migration and international education. His active interest in the China market is assisted by his location in Hong Kong. He is also interested in city tourism and brings some of his research work to Melbourne including through Napier’s Tourism industry Leadership Programme which originated in Melbourne.
