Biography

Raquel Goldhardt,joined the Miami VA and Bascom Palmer team as an assistant professor of clinical ophthalmology in 2010. She received her M.D. degree from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil. She completed ophthalmology residency at Santa Casa Hospital, Brazil. She then completed a clinical fellowship in Uveitis and AIDS at the Paulista School of Medicine at Federal University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Dr. Goldhardt solidified her training in ocular inflammatory disease with a second Uveitis Fellowship, at University of California, Los Angeles, Jules Stein Eye Institute, under Dr. Gary Holland, who first described the association between CMV retinitis and AIDS. Dr. Goldhardt also completed general surgery Internship at Los Angeles Medical Center and a second complete residency in ophthalmology at Tulane University where she was the Chief Resident in 2008-2009. Dr. Goldhardt then completed a medical retina fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute under Dr. Philip J. Rosenfeld, a pioneer in the use of bevacizumab and other anti-VEGF agents for both neovascular AMD and vein occlusions. Dr. Goldhardt has been invited to lecture across the country and around the world. Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, her research interests include treatment and disease mechanisms of ocular inflammations and infections, retinal vascular occlusions, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, ocular imaging, and management of complications of cataract surgery.
