Biography

Dr. Xiaohua Huang received her B.S. in Chemistry from Jilin University in 1996 and M.S. in Physical Chemistry from Peking University in 2001. She received her Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2006, working with Dr. Mostafa El-Sayed. She received her postdoctoral training at Georgia Tech and Emory University supervised by Dr. Mostafa El-Sayed and Dr. Shuming Nie from 2006 to 2010. She joined The University of Memphis as a tenure-track assistant professor in 2010 and was tenured and promoted to be associate professor in 2016. Dr. Huang has been working in the field of cancer nanomedicine for over 15 years, with major interests in development and application of gold-based nano platforms and advanced optical technologies for cancer imaging, molecular detection and therapy. She has published about 50 peer-reviewed journal articles with more than 15,000 citations. Dr. Huang has been recognized with American Association for Cancer Research-Women in Cancer Research Brigid G. Leventhal Scholar, Oak Ridge Associated Universities’ Ralph E Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award and Early Career and Research Award in College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Memphis. Her research is fruitfully supported by National Institutes of Health, FedEx Institute of Technology, Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh and The University of Memphis.

Research Interest

The current research interests in Dr. Huang’s group include: (1) Shape-controlled synthesis and properties of magnetic-plasmonic core-shell nanoparticles; (2) Single particle optical imaging and spectroscopy; (3) Isolation, detection, and analysis of circulating tumor cells; and (4) Detection and analysis of exosomes and microvesicles.
