Biography

Asa B Segerstrom is working as faculty in the Department of Health Sciences, Division of Physiotherapy, Lund University, Sweden. She has authored several publications. The main purpose of her research is to study the interaction between metabolism and biomechanics during physical activity. A central thought is to evaluate new methods such as accelerometers, animation programs and mobile analysers of oxygen and carbon dioxide to describe the link between movement patterns and metabolism. Work profiles at maximal and sub-maximal activity levels are studied in individuals with different work capacities. Elite athletes, healthy sedentary people and patients with metabolic disorders have been studied. In ongoing research have we studied exercise effects in subjects with type 2 diabetes and in subjects with heredity for type 2 diabetes. In a recent study have we validated a new method to assess both biomechanical and metabolic load during kayaking on a kayak-ergometer in elite canoeing.
