Prof. Basel al-Ramadi received his B.Sc. from the University of Edinburgh (Scotland) in 1984 and Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia (USA) in 1990. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow (1990-1993) in the laboratory of (the late) Prof. Charles Janeway, Jr., in the Section of Immunobiology, Yale University School of Medicine (USA). In 1993, he joined Yale University faculty as Associate Research Scientist, a position he held until 1997. Subsequently, he was appointed Associate Professor of Immunology at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University. He has been the Chair of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology since 2010. Prof. al-Ramadi is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists (UK) and a member of several scientific societies, including the American Association of Immunologists, American Society for Microbiology and Clinical Immunology Society. He is a recipient of the Faculty Award for Excellence in Research in (2007), the Dean’s Distinguished Service Award in (2009), and College of Medicine's Distinguished Performance Award (2012).
