Biography

Bruce E. Tonn, Ph.D., Professor, joined the faculty in 1999, after sixteen years as a researcher at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), where he maintains a part-time appointment. Dr. Tonn received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Stanford University, Master's in City and Urban Planning from Harvard University (Graduate School of Design and Kennedy School of Government), and Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning from Northwestern University. His areas of concentration and research include: environmental, energy and futures policy and planning; decision-making under uncertainty; and computers in society. He has authored /co-authored more than 100 refereed journal articles, book chapters and refereed contributions to professional conference proceedings, and 60 technical reports. He serves on the Board of two journals; Futures and Social Sciences Computing Review. He is a frequent invited keynote speaker and lecturer. He is a member of the American Planning Association, American Association of the Advancement of Science, World Futures Studies Federation, World Futures Society, and the Society for Risk Analysis.
