Biography

Dr. Francesco Ganda completed his doctoral degree in the Department of Nuclear Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley in 2008. His doctoral dissertation, entitled “Physics of Hydride Fueled PWR” investigates the feasibility of using hydride fuels and of recycling plutonium and other minor actinides using hydride fuels in pressurized water reactors. It also provides a detailed analysis of the physical mechanisms for the calculated trends of the reactivity coefficients. Dr. Ganda received his MS in Nuclear Engineering from the university of california Berkeley with a thesis entitled "Optimization of a Sub-Critical Multiplier and a Beam-Shaping Assembly for a D-D Compact Neutron Source Driven BNCT Facility". Dr. Ganda’s research interests are in the area of nuclear reactor physics and design, with current emphasis on high conversion light water reactors, as well as very soft spectrum light water reactors through the use of hydride fuels; and BNCT for brain cancer treatment. He is author of several journal and conference papers.
