Biography

Dr. K. Freerk Wiersum is currently an Associate professor of Forest and Nature Conservation Policy group (WUR) of Wageningen University and the Chair of Forestry and Rural Development. He has been the Scientific advisor of the International Foundation of Science. He serves as an editorial board of Agroforestry Systems and Ethiopian Journal of Natural Resources. He is the member of the Steering Committee International course on local management of trees and forests for sustainable land use, IAC Wageningen, the Country vice-president of the International Society of Tropical Foresters and the member of Netherlands Nucleus group for Indo-Dutch Programme on Alternatives in Development (IDPAD). His research mainly concerns with the role of forestry in rural development with specific attention to indigenous forest management and community forestry development in tropical countries; and the role of forestry in rural development within Europe. He has edited around 200 publications that include 55 articles, around 35 conference papers, 57 Book chapters.
