Xia Wang is an associate professor at the Arizona State University School of Criminology and Criminal Justice. Wang received her doctorate from Florida State University in 2008. She is involved in studies of race and ethnicity and their effects on crime and criminal justice, and she is also interested in applying various quantitative methods to test and extend criminological theories. Her work has appeared in Criminology, Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency, Journal of Quantitative Criminology, and Law and Society Review.

The Chinese population has a high prevalence of mental illness, but the treatment gap is high; identifying the barriers to mental health services utilization can improve access and promote better mental health care. Very few empirical studies systematically examined the barriers to help-seeking in the Chinese population. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to review the literature on the utilization of mental health services by the Asian American population in order to understand the barriers in seeking professional mental health care among the Chinese.
