Biography

Dr. Chuanhui Gu is an assistant professor in the Department of Geology at Appalachian State University. My research approaches integrate concept development, laboratory & field observations, and computer modeling over a broad range of spatial and temporal scales to develop new insight into the complex hydrological controls on ecosystems. Dr. Gu came to Appalachian in 2009 from a postdoctoral position at the Berkeley Water Center at UC Berkeley. Dr. Gu earned his PhD in Environmental Sciences at the University of Virginia in 2007. His research focuses on the hydrological control on inorganic nitrogen loading to coastal streams. He also developed and conducted an experimental and modeling study to investigate the hillslope-scale nitrate reactive transport mechanisms across the multiple time scales from days to years. Dr. Gu is active in the Environmental Science Program as well as in the Geology Department. He is the winner of the 2012 Wachovia Award for Environmental Research.
