Biography

Dr. John Jacobs is a Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. He joined the department in 1980 after completing his residency in Otolaryngology at Barnes Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. He trained with the internationally renowned surgeon Dr. Joseph Ogura. Dr. Jacobs is a Professor at Karmanos Cancer Institute since 1999, and an Adjunct Professor of the Radiation Oncology Department of Wayne State University since 1995. Following undergraduate training as a biomedical engineer Dr. Jacobs received an MD from Northwestern University School of Medicine, Chicago, Illinois in 1975.

Dr. Jacobs has extensive experience in the combined modality management of the cancer patient. He is past chairman of both the surgery committee and head and neck surgical committee of the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group. He has served as trial chairman for many clinical trials involving both therapy and rehabilitation of the cancer patient and has been a funded investigator of the National Institute of Health. Dr. Jacobs has published extensively and is routinely invited to lecture both nationally and internationally.

Research Interest

Head and neck cancer, salivary gland cancer, thyroid cancer, combined modality treatment for head and neck cancer.
