Biography

Dr Lucia Pirisi-Creek is a professor in department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology at University of South Carolina, School of Medicine. She has done her postdoc in the field of Viral Carcinogenesis and HPV from National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland in 1985 and Postdoc in Chemical Carcinogenesis from University of Sassari in 1983. She is awarded with Mortar Board Excellence in Teaching Award, University of South Carolina, University of South Carolina School of Medicine Faculty Research Award and University of South Carolina School of Medicine Basic Science Research Award. Most of her research centers on cervical cancer, from the mechanisms that determine immortalization and progression to malignancy in HPV16-transformed human cells, to the epidemiology of HPV infection and cervical neoplasia in South Carolina women. A parallel project in the laboratory investigates the biology of ErbB2-positive breast cancer cells and their responses to Herceptin.
