Contact Carlo S. Casari

Dr. Carlo S. Casari is Assistant Professor in Physiscs of Matter at Politecnico di Milano, Italy. He graduated in Electronic Engineering at Politecnico di Milano in 1999. He got a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering in 2004. Since 2005 he has a permanent position as assistant professor at Politecnico di Milano, in the Micro and Nanostructured Materials Lab. At present his scientific interests regard mainly the growth of micro and nanostructured materials, films and surfaces, nanoparticles and clusters and the study of the structural and morphological properties by scanning probe techniques (AFM and STM) and vibrational spectroscopies (Raman, SERS and Brillouin). Carlo Casari is coauthor of more than 90 publications. 70 papers on ISI international peer-reviewed journals, 6 invited contributions to volume and more than 20 conference proceedings. Since 2001 his record of publications has a total of more than 1000 citations, Hirsch-index = 18 (source ISI-web of Science) and a total of more than 1400 citations, Hirsch-index = 22, (source Google Scholar). He is co-author of more than 100 orals and posters presented at conferences. Dr. Casari was the winner of the student award for best paper at the E-MRS conference in 2003 and in 2004. He was also the Winner of the Young Researcher Award at the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano in 2010. He is the member of the International advisory panel of Materials Research Express (IOP Publishing) and of the editorial board of the Open Surface Science Journal (Bentham Science Publisher), ISRN Nanotechnology (Hindawi); American Journal of Nanomaterials (Science and Education Publishing, USA), Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Research (Science and Education Publishing, USA), International Journal of Physics (Science and Education Publishing, USA), Advances in Nano Research, An International Journal (Techno Press, Korea), Trends Journal of Sciences Research.

Research Interest

Dr. Carlo S. Casari's research interests include:

  • The bottom-up growth of nanostructures and their structure-property relationships as a function of size and quantum confinement
  • The functional properties and potential applications of nanostructured materials obtained by assembling nano-sized structures as building blocks
