Dr. Edoardo Spina was born in Castellammare di Stabia (Naples) on 02.21.1956. He has received his Degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1981 from University of Messina and specialization in Neurology in 1985 from University of Messina. Dr. Spina received his PhD in Clinical Pharmacology in 1987 from Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden and specialization in Psychiatry in 1991 from University of Messina. Dr. Spina was a research fellow at the Department of Clinical Pharmacology, Huddinge University Hospital, Karolinska Institute , Stockholm, Sweden (1983-1987). Dr. Spina is currently a Professor of Pharmacology at University of Messina (since 2005). Dr. Spina is a Dell'UOS Director of Toxicology , Drug Monitoring and Drugs of Abuse, University of Messina from 2004. Dr. Spina is a Member of the Ethics Committee of the University Hospital of Messina (since 2001), Member of the Evaluation of the University of Messina (2005-2007) and Secretary of the Section of Clinical Pharmacology of the Italian Society of Pharmacology (2003-2007). Dr. Spina was a Director of the School of Specialization in Pharmacology, University of Messina in 2004 and Coordinator of the PhD Program in Developmental Clinical Psychopharmacology, University of Messina in 2008. Dr. Spina is a Member of the Academic Board of the PhD in Biotechnology and Pharmacology Clinical Pharmacology (Consortium of University of Perugia, Pavia and Messina). Dr. Spina is an author of 150 publications in international journals with impact factor and 15 book chapters on national and international texts on topics of particular clinical neuropsychopharmacology, pharmacokinetics and pharmacogenetics of antidepressants and antipsychotics, pharmacokinetic interactions of psychotropic drugs , metabolism and pharmacokinetic interactions of antiepileptic drugs, the clinical implications of pharmacogenetics in psychiatry , the correlation between plasma concentrations and clinical response to psychotropic drugs, pharmacovigilance in psychiatry. Dr. Spina is a Member of the Editorial Board of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring , Basic & Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology and Pharmacological Research. Dr. Spina is a reviwer for several international journals with impact factor for several international journals including Clinical Pharmacokinetics, Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, CNS Drugs, Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology, Psychopharmacology, Drug Safety, Pharmacogenetics.
