Contact Laven Naidoo

Laven Naidoo joined the CSIR’s earth observation research group in 2009 and has since developed skills in integrated sensor methodological approaches (hyper spectral sensor coupled with light detection and ranging, or LiDAR, through the Carnegie Airborne Observatory Sensor). His MSc, completed in 2011, entails the mapping of savannah tree species in the Greater Kruger National Park region, with a special focus on bush encroaching species. Laven Naidoo is also competent in working with machine learning algorithms such as Random Forests for tree species mapping applications.

Research Interest

Laven Naidoo Current research interests are Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and its application in assessing above-ground woody biomass with the use of multi-frequency, multi-polarised and multi-temporal data-sets; experimenting with interferometric SAR methodologies (InSAR) for estimating tree height; and optical data fusion techniques for improved biomass model development.
