Biography

Maithe Enriquez is an associate professor of nursing. She also has a clinical appointment in the Department of Infectious Diseases at Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo.Her publications include articles on topics focused on HIV treatment adherence, immigrant health care and interventions using community-based participatory action research methodology. Maithe Enriquez has recently completed writing her first book What Nurses Know….HIV which is scheduled to be launched in January 2012. In 2009 she was awarded the Local Heroes Award by Bank of America and in 2010 she was voted Faculty of the Year by the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Nursing student body.Dr. Enriquez has focused her research and clinical career on enhancing health outcomes for underserved low-income individuals of color and individuals who are living with HIV disease that experience difficulty adhering to their antiretroviral treatment. Maithe Enriquez academic service has focused on enhancing the academic success of disadvantaged students, in particular low-income students, first-generation college students and students of color.She currently serves as treasurer for the Kansas City Chapter of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care and also serves as treasurer for the local chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses, El Corazon de la Tierra. Maithe Enriquez  is an active community volunteer at Operation Breakthrough, an urban daycare center serving families who are living in poverty.

Research Interest

Maithe Enriquez research interests are in Infectious diseases, Syndemic health conditions (HIV and violence), Participatory action research, Development of interventions to prevent and manage chronic disease.
