Dr. Woodbury-Smith is a physician in the autism spectrum disorder service at Hamilton Health Sciences and adult developmental psychiatric clinic at St Joseph’s Healthcare. Dr. Woodbury-Smith is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences (Associate Member Department of Pediatrics) at McMaster University, Canada. After achieving his medical degree, Dr. Woodbury-Smith trained in psychiatry in Southampton and Cambridge in the UK, and at Yale School of Medicine, USA. Whilst at Cambridge he also completed his PhD and developed an interest in phenotypic aspects of autism spectrum disorders. This interest has continued in his work at McMaster, where he is involved in geneotype-phenotype studies of ASDs in collaboration with Toronto’s Centre for Applied Genomics. He is currently principal investigator on two autism genetics grants as well as being involved as collaboratorin other projects. Dr. Woodbury-Smith is also on the Editorial Board of the journals Journal of Autism & Developmental Disorders and Advances in Psychiatric Treatment.

Dr. Woodbury-Smith’s research interest includes:

  • phenotypic aspects of autism spectrum disorders
  • geneotype-phenotype studies of ASDs.
