Dr. Rachel Sayko Adams is a Senior Research Associate at the Institute for Behavioral Health at the Heller School for Social Policy & Management at Brandeis University.She holds a Masters in Public Health from Boston University, where she received the Allen R. Meyers Memorial Prize for Excellence in Health Services Research, and a doctorate from Brandeis University. Her dissertation examined alcohol use and its consequences after experiencing a combat-acquired traumatic brain injury (TBI) among active duty military members returning from a recent combat deployment. She has authored several articles in this area. Dr. Adams was the recipient of a pre-doctoral training grant from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. At Brandeis, she is the Project Director of the Substance Use and Psychological Injury Combat Study (SUPIC), a longitudinal study of substance use and psychological outcomes of Army service members returning from deployment, funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Dr. Adams has completed a study on the health effects of deployment on military spouses and children.

Research Interest

Dr. Adams’ primary research interests include the psychological health, comorbid conditions, and substance use behaviors of military service members, veterans, and their families.
