Contact Thomas De Meyer

Dr. Thomas De Meyer is a Postdoctoral Scientist at VIB (Flemish Institute for Biotechnology). He obtained his Master's degree in Biochemistry and Biotechnology in 2009 at Ghent University in Belgium, with a specialization in Plant Biotechnology. He joined the Plant-made Antibodies and Immunogens group of Prof. A. Depicker to perform his Master's dissertation on VHH and VHH-Fc production in Arabidopsis thaliana seeds. Afterward, he got an IWT PhD grant to further evaluate antibody production in plants and yeast, and to generate seed protein-specific nanobodies (VHHs). He obtained his PhD in November 2013 and is currently employed as a postdoctoral researcher in the same research group.

Research Interest

Dr. Thomas De Meyer areas of interest are Monoclonal Antibodies. Dr. Thomas De Meyer’s research is focused on the production of antibodies recognising seed proteins of a model plant, Arabidopsis thaliana, for protein characterisation and localisation studies. Two antibody formats were analysed in-depth: VHHs (Nanobodies®) and the derived bivalent VHH-Fcs. In addition, the research also included a critical evaluation of three production platforms (the yeast P. pastoris and the plants A. thaliana and N. benthamiana) for the VHH-Fc antibody format.
