Biography

Thomas Stach is Heisenberg Foundation scholarship holder at the Institute of Biology, Department for Comparative Zoology at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. He was temporary Professor of Systematics and Evolution of Animals at Freie Universität Berlin. He studied Biology in Tübingen and Heidelberg and did his Ph.D. on the development of Branchiostoma under the supervision of Professor Dr W. Maier. He worked as a post-doctoral researcher in the USA and in Sweden before he came to FU Berlin and completed a professorial dissertation there in 2008. He studied Developmental Biology of tunicates and hemichordates with regard to the early evolution of the chordata. His current projects are the phylogeny and ontogeny of deuterostomes and the investigation and documentation of the tunicate fauna of the Skagerrak.
