Biography

Dr. Eleri Jones started my research career in the mid-1970s as a nutritional biochemist with a focus on ascorbic acid (vitamin C). Since the early 1990s my research focus has shifted to tourism and management. She did her PhD at the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology (UWIST), which is now part of Cardiff University. She is now the Director of Research in Cardiff School of Management. At Cardiff Met, she supervised a number of PhD students on tourism and management-related projects. She is a member of UNESCO Cymru-Wales Commitee and represent UNESCO Cymru-Wales on the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal Steering Group which is ensuring the implementation of the Management Plan following the June 2009 inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List.  I am the Academic Member on the Welsh Assembly Government's Tourism Advisory Panel advising the Minister of Heritage.  I am also a Director of Churches Tourism Network Wales and a Trade Director for Capital Region Tourism (the Regional Tourism Partnership for South-east Wales).

Research Interest

She wants to identify a model which would make Tourism a realistic development option.
