Dr. Gualtiero Basilone,  received  PhD in Biology at the Department of Ecology and Animal Biology area ecology at the University of Vigo, Spain presenting a doctoral thesis entitled "The European anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus): ecological aspects and the exploitation of the population in the Strait of Sicily. " . In particular, the thesis has dealt with the following specific topics: Discrimination of small pelagic stocks using methods based on the analysis of amino acids in the tissues and in fish otoliths with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC); growth, reproduction in relation to the environment and its European nell'acciuga fishing methods compared both on the biological and economic. It also follows the PhD program at the University of Vigo (Spain) in the subjects of: Ecology of reproduction and childbearing potential in marine fish; scientific method in ecology: marking and recapture; statistics; ecology of seabirds; management of protected areas and ecological profiles. Thesis resulted from publications in ISI journals.
