Biography

Dr. Hussein A. Amery is an associate professor at the Colorado School of Mines. He had served as Acting Director of the Division of Liberal Arts and International Studies, and as Director of its first graduate program. After receiving his doctorate in Geography from McMaster University (Ontario, Canada), he was a faculty member at the universities of Toronto (Ontario), Bishop’s (Quebec) and Lethbridge (Alberta). He has written about water management and politics in the Middle East. His publications include an edited volume on Water in the Middle East: A Geography of Peace, and numerous referred articles and chapters on cultural perspectives on water issues, management of transboundary water resources, the hydropolitics of water imports, and on the prospects of water war in the Middle East. He recently published a paper on water security in Kuwait, and is currently researching water security in the Arab World, with a particular focus on the Gulf states. Dr. Amery has served as consultant on hydropolitical issues to the Canadian and American governments, and to various engineering and development organizations. He was chosen as Fellow by The International Water Association. At the Colorado School of Mines, Dr. Amery was a founding member and Director of the interdisciplinary masters degree in international political economy of resources.
