 Dyslipidaemia, Atherogenic Index and Urbanization in Central Nigeria: Associations, Impact, and a Call for Concerted Action

Dyslipidaemia is a major cardiovascular risk factor. It was earlier said to be infrequent among Blacks due to dietary and possibly genetic influences. However, Nigeria is experiencing rapid urbanization with increasing rapid rural-urban migration. The aim was to describe the pattern of dyslipidaemia in a typical rural population and genetically related urban dwellers in a way to highlight the impact of urbanization on dyslipidaemia in central Nigeria.
