Biography

Matjaz Ocepek, head of the National Veterinary Institute and the Head of the National Reference Laboratory for bovine tuberculosis engaged in development and implementation of the methods for diagnostics of zoonoses. principal investigator at the Veterinary Faculty.
He has published more than 100 original scientific papers. He is a member of the editorial board and a reviewer for several international scientific journals and a member of the European Society of Mycobacteriology (chairman of the 31st ESM congress), International Association for Paratuberculosis, International Society for Infectious Diseases and Slovenian Microbiological Society (past president).

The Influence of Livestock on Human Infections with LA-MRSA

Infections caused by the methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are traditionally nosocomial, but recent reports have indicated an increased frequency of community acquired infections. Livestock associated MRSA (LA-MRSA) is usually present in livestock, especially in pigs. Although LA-MRSA strains usually don't cause the disease in animals, they might function potential source for human infections. In Slovenia, the number of people colonized with LA-MRSA is increasing.
