Kettering Medical Center, Dayton, Ohio, USA, It is recommended that propofol be administered by an anesthesiologist. We examined whether propofol could be administered with equal safety under the supervision of an electrophysiologist. The reference procedure was cardiac resynchronization therapy-defibrillator (CRT-D) implantation, which requires deep sedation at the time of defibrillation threshold (DFT) testing.
