Abstract

The present study was performed to estimate heritability for yield and yield associated traits using twenty two rice genotypes. Nine parents and their 13 F4 populations were planted in a randomized complete block design using three replications at The University of Agriculture, Peshawar during 2014 rice crop growing season. Highly significant differences (p0.05) among the genotypes were revealed for primary branches panicle-1, secondary branches panicle-1 and grain length. F4 population K-Bas/Kangri-27 exhibited early heading (87 days) and maturity (123 days), while F4 population Bas-6129/Dok-Bas produced maximum number of primary branches panicle-1 (10), spikelet panicle-1 (199) and grains panicle-1 (177). Bas-6129/Bas-370has showed maximum number of secondary branches panicle-1 (35). K-Bas/Dilrosh displayed maximum 100-grain (3 g) weight, grain length (10 mm) and width (3mm). The F4 population K-Bas/Kangri-27 manifested maximum biological yield (110.5 g) and grain yield (41.8 g). The F4 population Kangri-27/K-Bas exhibited high heritability for days to heading (0.71) and 100-grain weight (0.79). Among F4 population, K-Bas//TN-1 showed high (0.83) heritability for flag leaf area and grain length (0.87), while Dilrosh/K-Bas revealed high heritability for panicle length (0.63) and culm length (0.75). The F4 population K-Bas/Dilrosh showed high value of heritability for primary branches panicle-1 (0.61) and grains panicle-1 (0.75). On the basis of high heritability and superior performance for yield and yield associated traits, F4 populations K-Bas/Kangri-27, Bas-6129/Dok-Bas, Bas-6129/Bas-370, Kangri-27/K-Bas, TN- 1/K-Bas, Dlrosh/K-Bas, and K-Bas/Dilrosh could be advanced further to develop rice cultivars...
