Abstract
Phytosociological study with multivariate analysis was carried out in Pinus wallichiana forests of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir. It ranges from 1111 m to 3780 m elevation with plane to steep slow of 70°. As far as its distribution is concerned, it is abundant on North, West, South and North-East aspects. The species is found in pure and associated form with gymnosperms and other broad -leaved tree species. The highest density was found in dry temperate areas of District Chitral (North-facing slope). On the other hand, the maximum basal area was recorded in Southfacing slope of moist temperate areas of District Swat. Pinus wallichiana showed a wide range of ecological diversity in Pakistan. Significant relation was found among basal area and density (P>0.001). North and South facing slopes are positively significant (P<0.05) with density while negatively significant with basal area. It is also observed that Pinus wallichiana has no adverse affect on the other associated species. ANOVA test in some groups showed highly significant values with density and basal area. DCA also shows overlapping distribution. It is concluded that inspite of different natural and human interferences, Pinus wallichiana would be abundant species in the forests of Pakistan on the basis of its ecological amplitude and diverse nature...
