An increase in the prevalence of myopia, has led to a boom in refractive surgeries worldwide in the last two decades, as these refractive solutions provide freedom from glasses and lead to a tremendous improvement in the quality of life of the patient. Most of the patients undergoing these procedures are unaware of their options and suitability, while the treating ophthalmologists also face multiple puzzling questions whether this life changing experience should be permitted to the patient or not. The rising prevalence of myopia throughout the world has resulted in more myopes opting to undergo surgical refractive solutions, thus increasing the number of individuals who are more vulnerable to developing glaucoma in the future. Myopic discs, altered corneal properties, false interpretations of raised IOP and steroid induced glaucoma pose as major challenges for the treating ophthalmologist [Figure 1]. Here, I seek to bring clarity in discussing the difficulties faced by the ophthalmologist in the assessment of glaucoma suspects prior to the procedure, in the vital aspect of decision making: if the patient should opt for the procedure or not and finally in the challenge of managing raised IOP, which may occur, post-surgery.
