Abstract

Breast cancer is a rapidly growing disease at the end of the 20th century and the first two decades of the 21st century, the increased industrial pollution, sedentary life style, smoking, obesity, stress as well as the hereditary predisposing factors and age are very important factors to blame. Fortunately, the use of mammogram and governmental screening programs has remarkably reduced the mortality rate from breast cancer. Although some cases are missed by mammogram alone, the emergence of ultrasound has decreased the false negative results and helped to detect the smallest lesions that were impossible to diagnose by any technique before that as well as ultrasound guided breast intervention with minimal needed recovery time and hence breast ultrasound has become the complimentary study for all patients undergoing breast screening with further decrease in the morbidity and mortality rate.
