Abstract
Understanding the direction and magnitude of ecological responses caused by climate change allows human communities to better anticipate these changes and adapt as necessary. Through systematic literature review and participant observation, this study identifies tree planting education as a transformative pathway for disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation in Nigeria. The concepts of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation are well discussed in this study showing disciplinary-based perspectives. It describes tree planting as a disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation (CCA) strategy for ecosystem restoration and environmental sustainability in Nigeria. This study further identifies eco-photography, eco-poetry and eco-musicology as innovative tools which can be used to enhance tree planting education in Nigeria. This study recommends awareness creation and sensitization across campuses, companies, communities and cities in Nigeria on the socio-economic, psychological and therapeutic benefits of tree planting. It concludes with the clarion call for making disaster risk reduction a national priority and to extend tree planting education across various communities, cities and campuses for sustainable development in Nigeria.
