Dr. Bisseleua joined the MDG Centre West and Central Africa in May 2010 as the drylands and biodiversity specialist and the project leader for sustainable development in Mali under a grant from the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. He is an ecologist with a strong background in applied ecology, biological diversity and conservation. Dr. Bisseleua holds a Ph.D. degree in applied ecology with expertise in agro-ecology, agro-entomology, participatory action research and biodiversity conservation strategies. He has extensive experience working with predictive modeling, simulation modeling, and species distribution data. Dr. Bisseleua aims to: improve the livelihoods of rural poor people in the drylands of the Sahel through the management and enrichment of local plant diversity; improve our understanding of the role of climate and trophic level diversity changes on the stability of food webs and ecosystem functioning in agro-ecosystems; develop coping strategies to reduce climatic risks, and reduce farming households’ vulnerability; and increase household income while implementing biodiversity conservation measures that will enhance ecosystem services in landscapes dominated by humans. Dr. Bisseleua aims at building a future in which the communities of the humid and dry tropics achieve social, economic and environmental well-being. Dr. Bisseleua also strives to shape the leaders of tomorrow through mentorship and backstopping of young scientists.
