Biography

Dr. Saroja Voruganti earned her B.Sc. degree with honors in Foods and Nutrition at The University of Delhi, India, and a post-graduate diploma in Dietetics and Hospital Food Service. She received a Ph.D. in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Texas at Austin and did post-doctoral work in Genetic Epidemiology at the Texas Biomedical Research Institute. She joined the UNC Nutrition Research Institute in November 2013 as an assistant professor in the Department of Nutrition at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Research Interest

Dr. Saroja Voruganti specific interests include: understanding the influence of genetic variants on serum uric acid levels, biomarker for gout, renal and cardiovascular disease; analyzing effect of gene by diet interactions on serum uric acid levels and associated renal-cardiovascular diseases; detecting early biomarkers that contribute to increased serum uric acid or hyperuricemia; and identifying functional markers of these disorders that will lead to novel treatment targets.
