About Epilepsy

Epilepsy is the most common neurological disorder affecting people of all ages. Epilepsy means the same thing as "seizure disorders" and is characterized by unpredictable seizures and can cause other health problems. Epilepsy occurs as a result of nerve cell disruptions in the brain that causes seizures or periods of unusual behavior, sensations and sometimes loss of consciousness.

Seizure has many causes like illness, abnormal brain development, brain injury etc. After diagnosing epilepsy the treatment has to be started immediately. A measurement of electrical activity in the brain and brain scans such as magnetic resonance imaging or computed tomography are common diagnostic tests for epilepsy.

An electroencephalogram is a test that is conducted to measure and record the electrical activity of brain. Special sensors like electrodes are attached to head and hook to a computer that records brains electrical activity. Electroencephalogram Helps in detecting certain neurological disorders such as epilepsy.
