After several years in private practice, while also completing a PhD at the UC Berkeley School of Optometry that involved diabetic retinopathy and electrodiagnostics, Dr. Ng returned to the College. Dr. Ng is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry as well as a member of the American Optometric Association and the California Optometric Association. He has co-authored several scientific papers and has presented his research at national and international vision conferences. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Basic and Vision Sciences and has teaching responsibilities in both the basic sciences and clinical care.

Dr. Darius M. Moshfeghi, MD, is an Assistant Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine. He completed two fellowships, one in vitreoretinal surgery and retinal diseases and one in ocular oncology and orbital disease. He leads the Pediatric Vitreoretinal Surgery service and Stanford and founded the Stanford University Network for Diagnosis of Retinopathy of Prematurity (SUNDROP) telemedicine screening initiative, which utilizes RetCam II cameras to provide remote screening of retinopathy of prematurity. SUNDROP is currently the largest telemedicine network for ROP in the North America. He is Co-Director of Ocular Oncology.

Dr. Brian Francis, MD, is an associate professor of Ophthalmology and the holder of the Ralph and Angelyn Riffenburgh Professorship in Glaucoma at the Doheny Eye Institute, Keck School of Medicine of USC. He is one of the founders of the Ocular Burn Rehabilitation Center, which is a collaborative effort of the glaucoma, oculoplastics and cornea services. He is also involved in clinical trials of glaucoma diagnostic technologies, medications, and surgical procedures, and he has published on the epidemiology of glaucoma and related risk factors. Dr. Francis completed his undergraduate work at Stanford University and earned his MD from the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his residency at the Tulane University Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Francis then completed a glaucoma fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. He also holds a masters degree from USC in Clinical and Biomedical Investigations. He is an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology and has been honored by the American Academy of Ophthalmology with an Achievement Award and Secretariat Award. He also serves on the Ophthalmic Technology Assessment Committee of the AAO, evaluating newer technologies in glaucoma. He is a member of the editorial board and a section editor for Eyenet magazine and the glaucoma section editor for Ophthalmology Web. Dr. Bullock is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Harvard Medical School. He completed an internship in internal medicine at Washington University in St. Louis before serving in the U.S. Navy. After residency training in ophthalmology at Yale University, he completed fellowships at the University of California, San Francisco, and the Mayo Clinic. He received a Master of Science degree in Microbiology and Immunology from Wright State University and a Master of Public Health degree from the Harvard School of Public Health. He completed additional training from the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, the CDC in Atlanta, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and the Pasteur Institute in Paris. He worked as an ophthalmologist at the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Haiti and held a clinical faculty position at Stanford University before coming to Wright State, where he served as professor and chair of the department of ophthalmology, professor of physiology and biophysics, associate professor of microbiology and immunology, and was named the Brage Golding Distinguished Professor of Research. Dr. Bullock is the author or coauthor of more than 240 scientific publications. He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health, the American Ophthalmological Society, and the Cornea Society (Member with Thesis). Dr. Constance L Fry received his M.D in Medicine (1988) from Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans. For 2 consecutive years, Dr. Fry has collaborated with colleagues at SAMMC (San Antonio Military Medicine Consortium - the combined residency programs of Wilford Hall and Brooke Army Medical Center). Dr. Fry participates in the curriculum development and assignment of clinical duties, as well as periodic one-on-one teaching. In 2008, Dr. Fry developed as specific evaluation tool whereby faculty can give a written evaluation that functions as immediate feedback. The resident presentation is discussed and ultimately evaluated with respect to the 6 General Competencies of the ACGME. From 1994 to present, Dr. Fry has been an invited, paid instructor at a national review course in ophthalmology, teaching residents and recent graduates the salient points on ophthalmic plastic surgery in preparation for examination by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. John J Huang joined the Yale University of School of Medicine starting July of 2007 as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology specializing in vitreo-retinal diseases and uveitis. His clinical practice involves medical and surgical treatment of patients with a wide range of retinal disorders, such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular hole, macular pucker, retinal detachment, cystoid macular edema and hereditary retinal degenerations. Raquel Goldhardt,joined the Miami VA and Bascom Palmer team as an assistant professor of clinical ophthalmology in 2010. She received her M.D. degree from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil. She completed ophthalmology residency at Santa Casa Hospital, Brazil. She then completed a clinical fellowship in Uveitis and AIDS at the Paulista School of Medicine at Federal University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Dr. Goldhardt solidified her training in ocular inflammatory disease with a second Uveitis Fellowship, at University of California, Los Angeles, Jules Stein Eye Institute, under Dr. Gary Holland, who first described the association between CMV retinitis and AIDS. Dr. Goldhardt also completed general surgery Internship at Los Angeles Medical Center and a second complete residency in ophthalmology at Tulane University where she was the Chief Resident in 2008-2009. Dr. Goldhardt then completed a medical retina fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute under Dr. Philip J. Rosenfeld, a pioneer in the use of bevacizumab and other anti-VEGF agents for both neovascular AMD and vein occlusions.

Dr. Goldhardt has been invited to lecture across the country and around the world. Dr. Sayon Roy received his PhD from Boston University and completed his postdoctoral training at Schepens Eye Research Institute, Harvard Medical School, Harvard University. Dr. Roy is currently a professor of Medicine, Section of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Nutrition and a professor of Ophthalmology at Boston University School of Medicine. Recognized as an expert in retinal vascular biology, Dr. Roy’s seminal work has identified several genes in the retina that are abnormally expressed in diabetic retinopathy. His pioneering work has led to novel gene modulatory techniques in retinal vascular cells using antisense oligonucleotides via intravitreal injection. Dr. Roy has received numerous awards including the American Diabetes Association Research Award for the commitment and dedication towards the fight against diabetes, the 2006 Mentor of the Year Award from Boston University, and the 2008 Innovative Award from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. We have hypothesized that excess synthesis of basement membrane components occurring in diabetes is a critical pathogenetic event in the development of vascular basement membrane thickening and complications of diabetic retinopathy. Having shown that the mRNA level of basement membrane components fibronectin and collagen IV are increased in diabetic retinas, our laboratory plans to reduce the synthesis of these basement membrane.

Dr. Brian S. McKay received his Bachelor’s degree in biology from University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee then completed his PhD at the Medical College of Wisconsin where he studied cell biology related to retinal diseases. Dr. McKay conducted his postdoctoral training in protein chemistry at The Scripps Research Institute in San Diego, CA. Upon finishing his training, Dr. McKay joined the faculty at Duke University in Durham, NC, where he developed his laboratory around projects addressing the biology of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Dr. McKay conducts basic research towards understanding retinal degenerations and the molecular origins of glaucoma, asking the key questions necessary for successful development of cell based therapies. His collaborations with the vitreoretinal surgical staff are central to the project’s success. Research is conducted in RPE transplantation methods for AMD therapy, and protein expression in glaucoma. In collaboration with W. Daniel Stamer, PhD, he is examining the structure and function of the myocilin to determine why the specific trait of glaucomatous disease is passed on through a nearly ubiquitous protein.

Dr. Matthew Wilson is a professor of ophthalmology at the Hamilton Eye Institute at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. Prof. Ahmad had has also served as Faculty on deputation from AMU Aligarh for about 5 years at Faculties of Medicine in the Department of Clinical Microbiology, Al-Arab Medical University, Libya and Department of Medical Microbiology, College of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, King Khalid University, Saudi Arabia.
