Evidence-Based Clinical Dermatology: Research, Practice, and Future Perspectives
Evidence-based clinical dermatology integrates the best available research evidence with clinical expertise and patient values to optimize the diagnosis and management of skin diseases. Over the past decade, advances in immunology, molecular biology, digital health, and pharmacology have significantly transformed dermatological practice. The emergence of biologic therapies, Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors, and precision medicine approaches has enabled more targeted and effective treatment of chronic inflammatory and autoimmune skin disorders such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and vitiligo. In parallel, diagnostic innovations including dermoscopy, reflectance confocal microscopy, and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven image analysis have improved early detection and diagnostic accuracy of skin cancers and other dermatologic conditions. Teledermatology has expanded access to specialist care, particularly in underserved regions, enhancing continuity and equity in healthcare delivery. Despite these advancements, challenges such as cost barriers, limited accessibility, and ethical concerns regarding AI integration persist. This article reviews current evidence-based practices in dermatology, highlights recent research advancements, and discusses future directions for clinical practice.
