Pregnancy in a Patient with Advanced Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Kaposi's Sarcoma

Pregnancy in a Patient with Advanced Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Kaposi’s Sarcoma

The occurrence of malignancy amongst people living with HIV/AIDS represents a challenge in managing such patients. An estimated 30-40% of HIV-infected patients are likely to develop a cancer during their disease. The AIDS-defining cancers Kaposi’s sarcoma (KS), non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and cervical cancer, are the most observed AIDS-defining cancers. In the era of antiretroviral therapy (ART), a significant decrease in the incidence of AIDS-defining illnesses is observed, while non-AIDS malignancies are on the increase, and constitute around 58% of all cancers diagnosed in HIV-infected patients.
