Biography

Professor Antony Gomes born in Calcutta 10th July 1951. He had his graduation from Presidency College, Calcutta in 1972, and Masters from Calcutta University in 1974. He had his predoctoral training at Calcutta School of Tropical Medicine, Dept of Pharmacology and earned his Ph.D. in 1981 from Calcutta University. With INSA-JSPS postdoctoral exchange programme fellowship, he had his postdoctoral research at Tohoku University, Japan. Prof. Gomes is a member of International Society on Toxinology, Fellow of the Zoological Society, Fellow of the West Bengal Academy of Science & Technology, Fellow of the Indian Association of Biomedical Scientists and Fellow of the Indian Pharmacological society. He has been awarded the prestigious UGC-BSR fellowship. Recently he has been awarded the Fellow, Association of Physiologists of India. Prof. Gomes worked on Venoms & Toxins on (1) Structure-function & Drug development clues (2) Herbal antagonist against snake venom (3) Nano Toxicology. He has published more than 119 scientific articles in peer reviewed national & international journals. He has completed 35 research projects and thirty students have earned their Ph.D. under his able guidance. Prof. Gomes has two National & one European patent to his credit. Prof Gomes is the founder Secretary of the Toxinological Society of India. He has visited Japan, Paris, Egypt, Oxford & China for his research presentations.
