Biography
Douglas L. Delahanty is Professor of Psychology at Kent State University and Director of the Initiative for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR), an initiative to increase the number of interdisciplinary, inter-institutional grant submissions. His research has focused on examining biological predictors of post-traumatic distress in adult and child trauma victims and the elucidation of efficacious early interventions to reduce the development of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). He has authored or co-authored numerous publications in these areas, and his research has been supported by grants from the National Institute of Mental Health and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. He has served on NIH grant review panels for the last ten years.
Research Interest
Our lab conducts basic research examining early biological predictors of psychopathology (posttraumatic stress disorder [PTSD] and depression) following traumatic events in children and adults. We also examine the impact of trauma history and PTSD on various disease samples (HIV+, surgical patients). Our research focus is translational, involving building on our basic findings to conduct psychological and pharmacological interventions to reduce/prevent the development of PTSD.
