Biography
Dr. Sys is currently working as head of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology at the St. Blasius Hospital in Dendermonde, Belgium. Dr. Sys received his Doctoral degree from the University of Antwerp in 1991. Dr. Sys has authored several publications in various journals and books. His publications reflect his research interests in spine surgery and sports traumatology. Dr. Sys is serving as a board member in the Belgian Spine Society (BSS) and Spine Society of Belgium (SSBe) and as a member in the Spine Society of Europe (Eurospine) and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). He is participating in orthopaedic missions at AZV/DWV (Doctors without Vacation) in Kongo. Dr. Sys received the best podium presentation award at the Brucosport Symposium in Bruges in 1996 and at the Eurospine meeting in Liverpool in 2013.
Research Interest
Dr. Sys’s research focuses on spondylolysis in athletes and bone mineral proteins in spine surgery.
