Biography
Matt is a Reader in Sport & Exercise Science, with specialism in sports biomechanics. Matt leads biomechanics modules on the BSc Sport & Exercise Science programme, and strength and conditioning modules on the MSc in Football Rehabilitation. Matt is programme leader for the MRes in Sport & Exercise Science and in Sports Therapy, and currently is supervising a number of postgraduate students on PhD and MRes programmes. Matt also continues to work for the Football Association as an exercise scientist with the England U19 squad. Matt has worked with the FA for 6 years to date, and has worked with teams for the U16s to the Seniors. Matt has previously worked in international athletics, rugby union, and professional rugby league. This applied practitioner approach influences Matt's research interests. A primary research theme is the physical (biomechanical and physiological) response to soccer-specific activity, with implications for performance enhancement and injury prevention. This theme involves the development of exercise protocols, and research designs to match the demands of the modern day soccer professional.
