Biography
Prof. Mauro Salizzoni was born in Ivrea (Torino) 14/04/1948. He has been the Director of the Liver Transplant Center at the Molinette Hospital -Turin - Italy – corso Bramante,88 - since 1990. Since then, he has performed more than 2400 orthotopic liver transplantations in adult and pediatric patients (including living donor liver transplantations). He obtained a medical degree from the University of Turin in 1973 and completed postgraduate degree in General Surgery , Chest and Lung Surgery in 1978 and 1981 respectively. He began his career as a Fellow in the Department of Surgical Pathology at the Molinette Hospital, and later became an Attending Surgeon before taking up his current position. Prof. Salizzoni has completed internships in Colombes, France, and Hanoi – Vietnam- with Prof. Nguyen Duong Quang (March/April 1983 and March/April 1984) specialising in esophageal and hepatic surgery, including liver resection models and experimental liver transplantation. Between 1986-1989 he worked with Professor Otte at the St. Luc Hospital in Brussels – Belgium- where he was first introduced to reduced liver transplantation.
