Biography

VP Bhadana is currently working as a Senior Scientist at Crop Improvement Section, DRR, Rajendranagar, India. He has worked for more than 10 years in the related field and gained a plethora of knowledge in plant science. He has published numerous research papers and articles in reputed journals and has various other achievements in Plant Breeding. His research interests lie in Core collections, specific amplification pattern, descriptors, Genetic similarity, japonica, indica. He has extended his valuable service towards the scientific community with his extensive research work.  He developed and released two blast resistant high yielding rice varieties namely, Maniphou 10 (SVRC) for Manipur and RC Maniphou 11 (CVRC) for Meghalaya and Manipur states of NEH. RCM-23 a rice culture was found resistant to neck blast in repeated screening and the resistance was also confirmed in NSN under AICRIP. This culture is registered as a source resistant to neck blast with registration no. INGR 10153 and IC 0584772 with NBPGR. Another germplasm namely Phougak possessing clustered spikelets was also registered for its unique character of multi-spikelets (clustered spikelets) in panicle with registration no. INGR 10154 and IC 0583654. In addition, more than 300 local germpalsm of rice collected from different parts of north eastern region, which are being maintained at ICAR Manipur Centre. Germplasm of other crops such as maize, Rice bean, French bean and Cowpea were also collected in NEH. He also developed three short duration lines of rice suitable for pre-kharif as well as post flood planting in Manipur valley areas; these lines are being tested under farmers’ conditions and screening facilities for screening rice genotypes for low phosphorus tolerance and response to its application at DRR and number of genotypes are being screened.
