Biography
DR. B. Chandrasekaran, Ph.D., has been appointed as Director, CSIR – Central Leather Research Institute (CSIR-CLRI) from Feb 2016 – Apr 2019. Prior to this, he was a Chief Scientist and as Chairman of the HRD Cluster of CSIR – CLRI in development of curriculum and vertical growth integrating the skills with levels of education. He is a Leather Technologist and specializes in Cleaner Production with levels of education.

Evaluation of Sewability of Nappa Leathers

This paper focuses on determining the standard threshold value of needle penetration force and sewability of garment leathers using sewability tester whose design has been modified exclusively for leathers. Two different types of apparel leathers sheep and goat nappa leathers were chosen for the study. A nominal value of threshold was initially set based on mass per unit area of samples and tests were carried out at different threshold settings.
