Biography

Dr. Daniel Santa Maria is originally from Kansas City, KS, and moved to San Antonio, Texas to complete his residency training program. He ended up liking San Antonio so much that he decided to remain in the city permanently. Dr. Santa Marias academic and clinical interests include Sports Medicine, Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine, Electrodiagnostic Medicine, Amputee Medicine, and the Kinematics of Gait. The majority of his free time is spent with his wife, Emma. Dr. Santa Marias hobbies include working out, studying, enjoying a good non-medical book, hiking, and volunteering his time to cover sporting events.

Use of Autologous Adipose- Derived Stromal Vascular Fraction to Treat Osteoarthritis of the Knee: A Feasibility and Safety Study

Autologous adipose-derived stromal vascular fraction (SVF) was used to treat ten osteoarthritic knees of grades II or III (K-L scale) under an IRB-approved protocol in a feasibility and safety study. The primary objective of this study was to determine if adipose-derived SVF can be safely used for intra-articular injection of the knee. The secondary objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of an intra-articular injection of adipose-derived SVF for pain relief in osteoarthritic knees.
