Biography
Dr. Garza is currently Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, Professor of Otolaryngology, and Director of Human Regenerative Cell Trials at Tulane University School of Medicine; he is also Professor of Surgery and Professor of Otolaryngology at UT Health-SA. He was the Founder and Chairman of their Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He served on the University’s Executive Committee as Associate Vice President for the health science center.

Use of Autologous Adipose- Derived Stromal Vascular Fraction to Treat Osteoarthritis of the Knee: A Feasibility and Safety Study

Autologous adipose-derived stromal vascular fraction (SVF) was used to treat ten osteoarthritic knees of grades II or III (K-L scale) under an IRB-approved protocol in a feasibility and safety study. The primary objective of this study was to determine if adipose-derived SVF can be safely used for intra-articular injection of the knee. The secondary objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of an intra-articular injection of adipose-derived SVF for pain relief in osteoarthritic knees.
