Karin Weber is an Assistant Professor in the School of Hotel & Tourism Management. Prior to joining the school in 2001, she taught in marketing and tourism at Monash University, Australia. A native of Germany, Karin received her Bachelor of Business (Hons) degree from Monash University, her M.Sc. degree in Hotel Administratio n from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in the United States, and her Ph.D. in services marketing from Griffith University, Australia.

Several studies in the hospitality field have analysed academic journals to assess trends and suggest future directions of research. Despite its economic significance and rapid growth rate, convention tourism has received relatively little research attention. Furthermore, very little analysis has been conducted on the content of articles that examined this important industry sector. The purpose of this study is to determine the progress in convention tourism research to date by utilizing a content analysis on published articles in 14 academic journals, with the aim of identifying focus areas and providing future research directions.
