Biography

Dr. Theophilus Benjamin Kwofie is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Clinical Microbiology of the School of Medical Sciences (SMS) KNUST, Kumasi, Ghana. He holds a MSc. Degree in Molecular Biology (Kyorin University) and a PhD degree in Virology (Kyoto University), both universities in Japan. Prior to this he worked with the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, Legon in Accra from 1980 to 1992 as a laboratory Technician.

In a study to use a non-pathogenic Simian/Human Immunodeficiency Virus (SHIV) to overcome pathogenic SHIV in a dual infection/competition assay, two SHIVs, pathogenic 89.6P and non-pathogenic NM-3rN, whose replicative fitness were adjusted to be of equal strength, were mixed together and allowed to compete during many transfers in a monkey-derived cell line HSC-F.
