Shveta Bansal completed undergraduate studies at the University of Cambridge followed by Guy’s, Kings and St Thomas’ School of Medicine in London. She completed her higher surgical training as a registrar after rotations in Yorkshire and North West Deaneries, attaining her CCT ( Certificate of Completion of Training) in 2014. She has a post CCT fellowship in Ocular Motility and Neuroophthalmology from Aintree University Hospital. Miss Bansal has been a consultant at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals since 2015 and is also the Clinical Director for the department.

Traumatic chiasmal syndrome is a rare condition manifested by the onset of a bitemporal hemianopia after head trauma. Trauma is one of the rarer aetiologies of a bitemporal hemianopia. Few patients survive the severe impact required to damage the anatomically privileged optic chiasm. Those who do survive have usually sustained a variety of neuro-endocrine and neurological deficits in addition to the visual signs.
